Grade 2 (and some 3rd graders) will meet every other Sunday while preparing for First Confession (December 10) and First Communion (April 28). Classes are from 9:00-10:15 am at Immaculate Conception.(Sunday Mass at IC follows at 10:30 am). Catechist is Mrs. Ruth Smith.
We use the Signs of Grace program from Augustine Institute.
Sacramental preparation is a parish activity that is overseen by the Faith Formation program. Sacramental preparation is mainly spiritual, not academic.
Thus our second graders will be doing Sacramental preparation (spiritual) on Sundays and Faith Formation (catechesis) on Wednesdays. In the past, when doing Sacramental preparation only, second graders were missing out of one of their four years of catechism.
For this year's full "First Sacraments" schedule, please see below.
First Communion Late-Comers, "OOSBOTS": For students 4th grade and up who are baptized Catholics but have not yet received First Communion, we are pleased to offer our "Out-of-Sequence, Back-on-Track" (OOSBOT) class for the children and their parents. The class meets on Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., at Immaculate Conception. After First Confession and First Communion these students and their families will enter Family of Faith Small Family Groups and start home lessons directed by parents. Please see the OOSBOT page for more information.
We also, of course, serve those who are unbaptized, or baptized in another faith tradition, to become Catholic through our RCIA program.
