Dear Parishioner,

As anxiety and concerns about COVID-19 take root throughout the land and world, the Lord is speaking to us and calling us to a deeper relationship with Him. I encourage and invite you to spend more time in prayer. We here at Mater Dei parish will be walking with you on this journey.

Thus, we wanted to reach out to you and let you know what is going on at the parish. You are probably aware that due to the Coronavirus, the diocese has suspended all public Masses and parish events for 8 weeks starting this past Monday (March 16). So the parish is basically closed down during this time. We have enclosed the Bishop’s March 16th Press Release. You will notice that weddings, funerals and baptisms are proceeding but with a reduced crowd. At this moment the governor has limited this crowd to 10 people.

To reduce person to person contact, we have reduced our office hours. The new office hours (at IC) are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 3 pm at 1212 Morningside Ave.

We want to make sure that we all stay connected during these trying times, so we will be recording Sunday Masses and posting them online. These Masses will be on our website ( and the “Mater Dei Parish” Facebook page. These Masses will be alternating between Nativity and IC Churches (one week at IC and the next week at Nativity). Please do not worry as all Mass intentions will be said with individual Masses by our parish priests.

For weekday Masses the following options are available:
  • EWTN online and on TV: televised, radio, and online each day at 7AM, 11AM, 6PM
  • Sioux City area: 88.1 Mass at 9AM on Sunday
  • Carroll: 103.1 Trinity Radio Station - EWTN programming
  • Western Iowa: 7AM Sunday Mass from EWTN
  • Iowa Catholic Radio: 7AM Sunday Mass from EWTN
  • You Tube –you can do a search for Catholic Mass and find many.
For more spiritual support and updates from the parish, we invite you to join the parish texting group, if you have not already done so. To join simply text “connectMDP” to 84576. (You do not need to type the parenthesis – just text the above words). Also stay tuned to the previous mentioned webpage and Facebook page as we will be updating them often. We will also be publishing a bulletin every week that will be available on our website.

Due to new restrictions from the government, the churches will be closed until further notice. This is to help keep everyone safe. We want to make sure that all of our parishioners stay healthy. If this changes, we will let you know via the website, Facebook page and texting system.

If you have a Sacramental emergency and need a priest, please call the rectory at Nativity at 712-276-3022.

Unfortunately, even though parish activities have been halted, we do still have bills to pay, such as payroll, utilities, insurance and the like. So we kindly ask you to continue to not only pray for the parish but also continue to give financially. We have several options to aid you:
  • We have an automatic withdrawal form so that you can give directly from your bank account. Click on the “DONATION FORM” button to download the form. If you choose, you can fill the form out and send it to the parish office at the above address.
  • You can donate on the parish website ( Click on the “DONATE ONLINE” button. You will then be asked to pick your donation amount from $10, $20, $50, or $100. Once you select the amount, you can then change the quantity of that gift. For instance, if you want to give $200, then choose a multiple of 2 on the $100 donation.
  • You can also mail your Sunday Offering envelopes to the parish or drop them off during the new business hours.
You are all in our prayers. Please pray for us, the parish, the world-wide Church and all people who struggling during this time. We ask for God’s guidance and mercy through the intercession of Mary, our Mother and the Mother of God.

God Bless,
Fr. Dan Rupp
